Hello there Desi Brides!

I hope you are all having a fabulous week.

As you know I am always keen to feature new and exciting suppliers to make your search that little bit easier. Today I want to introduce you to Karuna Bilimoria who is a henna artist based in North West London but she also travels nationally and internationally.

Karuna has been an avid artist from a young age. Her passion for henna was instilled in her from her Grandma who absolutely loves henna. Her Grandma came to visit from India and brought along a selection of henna cones. She got Karuna to practice on her and guided her through the process.

Karuna was so inspired by this and her dream to become a professional henna artist was born. She initially took bookings through family and friends and in 2011 she officially branded and launched her business. She has been doing henna for 16 years now!

Karuna is passionate about her work and because of this takes great care to ensure each bride’s vision is filled. Her work is detailed and intricate she can create signature style bride & groom figures, drums, peacocks, traditional flowers and leaves.

In terms of her approach she offers a bespoke henna design and personalised service to each and every bride. She see’s each bride as a unique individual; she wants her design to mirror them and their personality. The benefit
of doing this eliminates any guesswork on the day of application and saves time. Most importantly this gives brides peace of mind as they know that they will be getting exactly what they want. This is such a great service as I know how important it is as a bride to feel at ease and the importance of great customer service!

Not only can she create beautiful henna but this lady is multi talented, she can also take care of your nails. She is OPI trained, which is the leading nail salon brand worldwide. She can create signature henna nail art and  reverse henna nail art. She has previously worked at Selfridges and Westfield London creating beautiful nails so you know you are in safe hands. Whether you fancy acrylics, gel nails or just a gel colour Karuna is the lady for the job! The fact you can get your henna and nails done from one talented person just takes away from the stress and hassle of having to coordinate two separate people and you all know I’m all about time saving! Not only that but her customer service is through, professional and you get a speedy response!

Karuna also designs henna decorated glass holders for favour’s & centre pieces so if you’re looking for a bit of individuality on your wedding day why not consider these fantastic unique pieces. They can also double up as a thank you gift for your nearest and dearest. I think this so lovely that your family can have a keepsake from your special day!

Here’s some advice, hints and tips Karuna gave me for all you lovely brides..

Establish the style and amount of coverage you want with your henna which will make it easier for you to find an artist who can cater to your needs. She said she always asks her brides how far up the wrists/ankles they want the henna to go and how full they want the henna on the inside & back of the hands/feet, fully covered or loose strip style. All artists have their own signature styles whether that is simple or very intricate; make sure you know what you like. Don’t just book an artist based on the price quoted get a real understanding of their work and what they have exactly quoted for.

Before you enquire with a henna artist make sure you have a set date for your mehndi night, Karuna normally recommends 2-3 days before the wedding. Try to set aside a day to have bridal henna done in a relaxed, quiet and spacious environment so there are no distractions. Karuna says this helps the bride to feel more relaxed and enjoy the application process and enables her to work more efficiently.

Prior to booking organise a trial with your henna artist. Karuna encourages her brides to do this so that she can get to know her brides and establish what they want. It also gives her brides the opportunity to look through her portfolio for inspiration. During the trial Karuna can create a template of the design so her brides can get a visual of the pattern they have discussed before they commit to booking. She charges £50.00 for a design consultation which lasts 1-2 hours, but this can be redeemed and put towards your final bill if you book within 5 days following the consultation date. This really is a small price to pay when you will get peace of mind about your henna design.

As I’ve been a bride myself I know what a difference your nails and henna can make to your big day, not only can they make you feel and look beautiful but they will be on display for everyone to see on your big day and in your pictures for a lifetime! So I always suggest that my brides invest in their nails and henna, Ladies please please please don’t cut cost because it really isn’t worth it and we are all worth it!

Always always make sure your artist uses 100{96bf72e157f0de290a30ca90587c742cb5c33e86c5bd5fb645ca1571820aea17} natural henna and can provide you with a list of the ingredients that goes into their paste or details of where they purchase their cones from. Any reputable henna artist will have no issue with providing this information. Karuna makes her own henna paste at home and prides herself in knowing its all natural. She orders her supply of henna powder from India. She makes sure she tests each batch of paste on herself to establish its potency and to ensure it’s completely safe. What more could you want from a henna artist?! The ingredients she uses are dry henna powder, bottled lemon juice/water, cajeput and lavender essential oils.

She advises that when it comes to henna be sure to avoid black henna it contains toxic ingredients such as p-phenylenediamine (PPD) which can cause permanent scarring. For nails be sure to avoid ‘MMA’ (Methyl Methacrylate). This is a harmful substance which is banned for use on the nails because it can cause permanent loss, damage and numbness of the nail, miscarriages, kidney & liver failure and much more! Finally never be afraid to ask henna or nail artists what they use after all you have a right to ask it’s your hands and feet!
