Hi there Desi Brides!

I can’t quite believe that we are in the second week of January already – where has time gone?

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year!

After a extremely busy 2016 I enjoyed a full two and half weeks off during Christmas and it was much needed! My holidays started off with my husband taking me to London and we stayed at the very edgy and cool W hotel in Leicester square. One of my favourite things about London during Christmas time is the decorations and lights – they truly get you into the festive spirit and I just love that tingly Christmas feeling you get.

During my holidays I really enjoyed my time off. My down time consisted of stuffing my face, catching up on DVD’s such as the Godfather and just enjoying the slower pace of life with a little bit of planning for Desi Bride Dreams for 2017.

But today I wanted to talk about my 2016 review. Those of you that have followed my journey right from the start know that the Desi Bride Dreams wedding blog was only launched in July 2014 so its only a mere 30 months old!

I started the Desi Bride Dreams blog as a outlet for my inspiration and of course to capture my wedding planning journey and it very quickly grew in popularity! I was receiving emails all the time from brides who were truly inspired by my blog or were coming across similar issues whilst planning their Asian wedding. I was also getting asked to help plan and coordinate weddings! With a firm background in marketing and doing events behind the scenes for the last few years I never once thought I would be a Asian wedding planner! But when guests, friends and family as well as industry friends noticed my pre wedding and wedding events and how they were executed flawlessly everyone encouraged me to launch a Asian wedding planning and coordination business.

I was newly married and I was still getting a lot of encouragement from friends, family and indutsry friends. But the thought at the back of my mind was can I really make it in this cut throat industry? Is wedding planning even a career? Would couples pay for my services? I always knew I wanted to do something Asian wedding related for as long as I can remember but was this truly my path?

Those of you that know me well – I am a massive risk taker and I always move forward with my heart. I’ve been known to quit my corporate job during my lunch hour when I have sat down and written my notice because my heart wasn’t in it. I quit my first job as I was so miserable amongst the worst recession of the UK ever saw. But guess what? I’ve always been more than OK but I have always believed in myself and I firmly believe that life is too short to be nothing but happy!

So the Desi Bride Dreams Wedding Planning and Coordination business was no different! It was launched in September 2015 with this super slick launch video and straight away I had a few clients book me. I then continued to take on clients throughout the winter.

Everyone has simply been amazed how quickly I have grown and this year is going to be the year it grows even more! All I can say is hard work and showing up everyday pays off.

So here it is in images my 2016!

January 2016 started with a bang! I worked alongside my British wedding planner friend from Raspberry Bespoke Events to help style a luxurious fusion wedding in the heart of Mayfair at the Connaught. The colour palette was quite simple – my favourite gold!

I also turned 30 in January last year! A huge milestone for me of course. And whilst others get quite depressed when they hit this age I on the other hand had the feeling of embracing my older self and designing the life I truly loved. I am genuinely becoming my own fearless women and I know that I am developing in to the kind of person that I want my future generations to be proud of.

I was also surprised by my wonderful husband and he took me on a four day break to amazing Dubai! We stayed at the Jumeriah beach hotel and it was a truly wonderful and relaxing break.

February was another busy and whirlwind of a month. I was extremely busy with planning for my 2016 clients and I was also fortunate enough to fly over to Australia for two weeks for a family wedding. It was great to see how a Sikh wedding is conducted on the other side of the world in Sydney. We really made the most of our Australia trips and travelled to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane! Here is an image of the beautiful couple.

February also saw my first styled shoot at the stunning Alrewas Hayes. It was a gold and glamorous shoot which you can view here

No holidays in March! But again very busy planning and prepping for my April Weddings!

April saw two of my lovely couples get married. The first wedding was a fusion wedding of the lovely Rob and Meera. It was something completely different to my usual style as it was set in a barn however I thoroughly enjoyed planning this fusion wedding and the testimonial I received from Rob and Meera was extremely touching!

“Sharn was a blessing for us.

We first approached her about seven months before our Asian wedding planning journey. At this point we had only arranged a dry hire of our venue and needless to say we were rather overwhelmed by the amount we had left to do. After our first conversation with Sharn we knew she was the right person to take on our mammoth task of Asian wedding planning. She immediately got to work researching vendors for us and making sure we were aware of all the tiny pieces that need to be considered. Her attention to detail was invaluable, she reviewed each and everyone one of our contracts, and asked for changes where she had experienced pitfalls in the past.

Sharn always put us first as a client and worked with us to make our vision into reality. She worked around our busy work schedules, even if that meant rushed lunchtime calls or late evening catch ups! She always put our wants first even if that meant going against her own personal style.

In the weeks leading up to the wedding I had a number of people commenting on how calm I was, and wondering when my bridezilla moment was coming. I can honestly say that this was all down to Sharn. We knew she had everything under control and so we did not have any stress.

On the wedding day Sharn arrived at the venue early and helped set everything up. She had made sure we had provided her with all the necessary liaison points from our friends and family which meant everything went to plan without having to worry either of us.

If you are looking for a Asian wedding planner or Asian wedding coordinator (and even if you’re not), then Sharn is the one for you! She will take all your concerns away and make sure your day runs like the magical dream you want it to be.”

May – June

These months were extremly busy for 2017 consulations and bookings! And of course preparing for my summer weddings – they completely whizzed past.

May also saw my first year anniversary and it was so lovely to have a small initiate gathering at my inlaws to celebrate. We spent the actual anniversary day at the gorgeous Chatsworth House.

July was a very busy month! We had two weddings in this month which went exceptionally well.

Here is our beautiful bride Sim.

August was our busiest month by far as we had many back to back weddings which we had both planned, designed and or course coordinated! Here is a lovely video of one of our couples who got married at the idyllic Northbrook Park.

September saw the beautiful regal themed wedding of Ani and Jatin at Dallas Burston Polo club. Ani looked absolutely mind blowing in her Sabyasachi outfits!

In October we were busy planning for a styled shoot which will be published this year in some well known publications – watch this space!

November saw Desi Bride Dreams execute, finalise and coordinate three events for Jagdeep and Raj. The pressure was on for this wedding as we did three back to back events which were highly detailed but we were so pleased when all three events went to plan and of course on time!

Here is what Jagdeep had to say about us:

“Sharn, we cannot thank you enough for your support in coordinating our three special days. You were invaluable in helping Raj and I plan 3 events!

We hired Sharn just a few weeks before the wedding after months of stress and not enough hours in the day with a full-time job.
You were wonderful from the start and were with us during the highs and lows of wedding preparations! Helping us to coordinate our suppliers was invaluable and you took the pressure of both Raj and I and also our families!
You were even with me whilst I was getting ready for my Sikh ceremony and very very nervous – you are more than a wedding coordinator, you are a friend!

Desi Bride Dreams are invaluable for any bride and groom planning their wedding events. We could have not done it without Desi Bride Dreams.”

A very busy December but most importantly I took some time out and fully recharged and of course reflected on what a wonderful 2016 I have had.

We have some really exciting weddings and projects for 2017 and we are super excited to share them!
